Overview

The Accounts Payable Specialist is responsible a range of general accounting tasks but will be primarily responsible for all accounting work associated with processing accounts payable and expense reporting.  Supports the accounting and financial reporting functions through the accurate accounting and reporting for expenses.

Responsibilities

Description

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. 

  • Charges expenses to accounts and cost centres by analysing invoice/expense reports; recording entries �Perform timely account reconciliation by verifying entries and comparing to balances
  • Record, code and process all invoices for payment
  • Pays vendors by monitoring discount opportunities; verifying federal id numbers; scheduling and preparing checks; resolving purchase order, contract, invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation; insuring credit is received for outstanding memos; issuing stop-payments or purchase order amendments
  • Ensure vouchers are coded to the correct general ledger code.
  • Handle employee matters as it relates to online expenses and travel

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • To be considered for and to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

    Qualifications include:

    • 2 or more years of college
    • 3+ years of accounts payable experience
    • Thorough understanding of accounts payable process
    • MS Office, NetSuite, Coupa (preferred)
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Work cooperatively with and collaboratively as part of an Accounting team
    • Other characteristics such as personal characteristics
    • Professional Certification
