As a full stack Associate Software Engineer at PowerSchool, you will be a critical member of our team, helping to develop and maintain the innovative software solutions that make our products so effective. Our software engineering practices promote a culture of continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous improvement.  This position, under the general direction of the Lead and/or Manager, Software Engineering, will be responsible for technical and development support for our award-winning K-12 software. This role will be to implement, code, build, and test new features, maintain existing features, data models, customization, and reporting features for our products. 

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute meaningfully on a scrum team as a full stack java junior engineer
  • Work on a globally distributed cross-functional team where team member will play a critical role in developing, deploying, and observing your code in production along with supporting the team’s services through an on-call rotation
  • Deliver consistent results in a rapid application agile development environment. Meet tight deadlines in a rapid application development environment.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Design, and Operations teams to create and deliver tested features to production
  • Develop high performance, highly scalable and accessible web applications. Our web app is used by over 20 million educators, students, and parents worldwide.
  • Be comfortable bringing innovative ideas to the team and advocating for them. Be able to assess and bring in industry information into your decisions and learn recent technologies
  • Be willing to work in any area of the codebase if needed, using technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Node, React, PHP, Java, MySQL, Amazon Web Services (AWS) Lambda (Serverless framework is a plus) or AWS tools/technologies
  • Be willing to accept responsibility and be accountable for your own and the team's work.
  • Ensure your knowledge and expertise is shared amongst other team members and even across teams and be willing to seek out help when needed.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or information Technologies required or equivalent experience 
  • Strong CS fundamentals, including familiarity with data structures and asynchronous challenges in JavaScript
  • Experience developing in at least one server-side language (such as node.js, PHP) and one client-side JS framework (such as JQuery, React or Angular)
  • Experience testing software and working with datastores, SQL, and/or NoSQL
  • Knowledge of current web client technologies including demonstrable proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript
  • Any work/project experience in software development process is a plus
  • A growth mindset and high ownership and accountability over their work and results
  • Experience with code review and the ability to confidently suggest improvements to the codebase
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and time management skills
  • Strong ability to handle a heavy workload with multiple projects and frequent interruptions
  • Strong ability to work in a changing, dynamic environment
