Our Hosting team manages and supports the infrastructure of all our platforms, from hardware to software, to operating systems to PowerSchool products. This collaborative team helps meet the needs of an evolving technology and business model with a specialized focus on protecting customer data and keeping information secure.

Responsibilities

Description

A Cloud Operations engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, managing, and optimizing cloud infrastructure and services. They ensure the availability, performance, and security of cloud-based applications and resources while monitoring and responding to incidents and issues. This role requires expertise in cloud platforms, automation, and best practices.

 

Your day-to-day job will consist of:

  • Coordinate ticket triage across the team to drive ticket resolution
  • Be both a highly technical hands-on engineer and effective at mentorship
  • Provides leadership across major incidents, product releases in coordination with customer support, customer success, and engineering teams
  • Coaches and mentors team members for skill development and experience
  • Establish goals and objectives for the team that aligns with the overall roadmap and delivery schedules
  • Works to increase team efficiency and effectiveness in order to achieve long term goals
  • Participates in hiring of new team members and 24/7 on-call support including shift rotations where required
  • Coordinate root cause analysis for production issues where the root cause is in infrastructure, environment, configuration, or deployment routines; understand when to escalate to product development teams; remediate root causes and implement preventative actions

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience supporting cloud-based products
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in leading technical teams of 4 or more
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent degree required
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience with application server technologies such as IIS, Tomcat
  • Minimum 5 years practical experience of Azure and/or AWS equivalent technologies such as EC2, NSGs, VPC/VNETs, Load Balancers, DNS, and certificate management
  • 3+ years’ experience in server administration and cloud deployment of both Windows and Linux
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience deploying and managing automated OS patching and vulnerability scanning
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) orchestration technologies such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt, Cloud Formation, ARM Templates, or comparable (demonstrable proficiency or professional experience in same preferred)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Python, PowerShell, Ruby, or programming languages
  • Demonstrable knowledge of cloud Identity and Access Management (IAM), Azure AD (AAD)
  • Ability to handle a heavy workload with multiple projects and frequent interruptions
  • Ability to work in a changing, dynamic environment
  • Strong problem-solving ability across applications and their supporting infrastructure in a cloud environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 years’ experience with containerization and container orchestration techniques (Kubernetes, Rancher, Mesos)
  • Knowledge of Relational and No-SQL databases (demonstrable proficiency or professional experience preferred)
